Cooking live on TV…

I recently had my television cooking debut on “Valley Dish” aired on Arizona’s KPNX-TV Channel 12 (NBC). Although I do cooking demonstrations and teach the occasional BBQ class, I must say that it’s a lot more difficult than it looks. Cooking at home or in a restaurant is a little less hectic, you have nowhere near the time constraints that you do in a few 4-5 minute segments and you aren’t talking to a camera or three with a producer off to the side ready to pounce if it all goes pear shaped!

Below are the three segments that I did, there are a few comical moments but in all the Host, Tram Mai, being the seasoned professional that she is, made it look easy and made sure that I remembered why I love to cook…It’s FUN!!

We started with a viewer question that was previously filmed which I answered just prior to going live:

Next Tram did the “intro” to the show and cut to a taped segment where viewers get a chance to learn a little bit about me and my dog “Cinnamon.”

After the intro, take a look at the main event, making BBQ Pulled chicken sliders: (This segment was entirely LIVE)

All in all, it was a great time and a BIG THANK YOU to Tram Mai who’s professionalism and infectious personality made for a wonderful first television appearance!
